Title: HAZARDOUS MATERIALS RESPONSES FOR FIRST RESPONDERS (165.15) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audience: Members of hazardous material response Duration of Course: Five days Scope and Course: The focus of the course is on recognizing and evaluating a hazardous materials incident, response organization, protecting response personnel, response resources, basic mitigation methods, and decision making. Firefighting techniques are not part of the course. Topics to be discussed include: chemical and physical properties of hazardous materials; toxicology; recognition and identification of hazardous materials; personnel protective equipment; direct-reading instruments; standard operating procedures; response organization; and sources of information. After completing the course, attendees will be more knowledgeable about response organization, response operations, personnel safety, equipment and instruments, resources, and mitigation methods. Course meets/exceeds OSHA (29 CFR 1910.120 requirement of a minimum of 24 hours of training for a Haz/Mat Technician.
Title: PERSONNEL PROTECTION AND SAFETY (165.2) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: The primary audiences for this course are Federal, State, and local responders including health, police, fire and others. Specific levels within agencies vary from department heads down to second level. Selection criteria are broad. Private sector representatives may also be eligible for this course. This course is for relatively inexperienced personnel who respond to accidents involving hazardous substances or investigate uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. It provides basic information on the protection and safety of personnel engaged in field operations dealing with hazardous substance. Duration of Course: Five days Scope and Content: Concepts, principles and procedures for personnel protection in hazardous substance accidents or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites; fundamentals of respiratory protection; types of respiratory protection equipment; protective clothing; air monitoring; safety procedures for response operations.
Title: TREATMENT TECHNOLOGIES FOR SUPERFUND (165.3) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: New on-scene-coordinators, remedial project managers, waste site managers, and others interested in treatment technologies. Duration of Course: Four days Scope and Content: Field categorization, waste treatability, bulking, groundwater containment, product recovery, soil vapor extraction, air and steam stripping, carbon adsorption, inorganic treatment, biological treatment units, thermal treatment units, disposal options, and advanced treatment technologies.
Title: AIR MONITORING FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (165.4) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: Personnel involved in emergency response to hazardous substance releases or those who investigate uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. Duration of Course: Five days Scope and Content: Air surveillance programs; air monitoring and sampling techniques and instruments; instrument calibration; exposure guidelines; and health and safety considerations.
Title: HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENT RESPONSE OPERATIONS (165.5) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: Personnel involved with the investigation/remediation of uncontrolled hazardous waste sites and, to a lesser extent, response to an accident involving hazardous materials. Duration of Course: Five Days Scope and Content: Identification, recognition, and control of hazardous substances; site/response personnel protection; regulations and action levels; SOP's, selection and use of dermal and respiratory protective equipment; and use of air monitoring instruments.
Title: RISK ASSESSMENT GUIDANCE FOR SUFPERFUND (165.6) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: Superfund risk assessors, risk assessment reviews, remedial project managers and risk managers as refered to in the RPA Superfund Risk Assessment Guidance Manual. Duration of Course: Four days Scope and Content: Applicable statutes, regulations and guidelines; Baseline Risk Assessment; and effort of contaminants on the Ecosystem through the use of Toxicity Testing and Field Assessments.

Duration of Course: Three days Scope and Content: Elements of a health and safety program - medical surveillance; safety and health training; safety plans; procedures; personnel protective clothing; and monitoring.
Title: SAMPLING FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS (165.9) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: Personnel responsible for inspections, investigations, and remedial actions at Superfund sites. Duration of Course: Three days Scope and Content: Sample plan development; screening techniques, equipment and procedures for sampling containerized materials, surface water/lagoons, sediments/sludges, and soil; sample shipment; soil gas sampling; and quality assurance considerations.
Title: CHEMICAL PROCESS SAFETY AUDITS (165.19) Agency Offering Course: U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Target Audiences: Personnel responsible for safety auditing for highly hazardous chemicals.
